These Are a Few of My Favorite…Podcasts!

Leveling up comes down to what you fill your head with. By supplying my head with possibilities, knowledge, and understanding, I bring more to meetings and interactions. Years of struggling with dyslexia, I learned reading comprehension isn’t my strength, never has been, and never will be, so I listen to absorb knowledge. The best part about listening is I can do this while I do mindless work that I hate doing, like organizing my email or desktop.

Below are my favorite podcasts from 2022 I listened to that leveled up my life. (Some of my favorite episodes are linked)

What’s going on in the world?

Up First podcast by NPR

Up first is a quick run-down on headlines news. It is helpful and factual on what it is and who is saying what; this is less depressing than regular news and newspapers. This six days a week podcast covers breaking news and current headlines, so just start from the most recent to keep up. Linked today's.

Health and Wellness

Build With Brabec by Amanda Brabec

An anti-diet culture podcast focused on empowering you to live your best healthy life. Amanda has guests spanning the fitness and wellness industry that have helped me feel less alone in my struggles or opened my eyes to others’ health challenges. This Episode with Body-Peace Coach Nina Manolson takes you through a journey of letting go of the negative body obsession and what frees you up to focus on it instead (think, career, family success... We love to hear it!)

A bit of Optimism by Simon Sinek

This podcast is appropriately named as Simon is a self-proclaimed optimist who has authored numerous leadership books (I have listened to them and will be included in another blog). Whenever I am feeling low, this podcast perks up my mood and offers perspective into ideas and situations I couldn’t have heard of anywhere else. Each guest is unique; I have cried, laughed, and empathized while listening to this podcast. I know I said Simon (yes, we are on a first-name basis at this point) is an optimist, but his podcast episode on grief shook me, and who else to hear about such a challenging topic from than someone who celebrates he’s an optimist? Be ready to cry for this one, but if you know anyone experiencing grief, this will give you perspective. If you are going through grief…this will help you think of how to move forward.

Call Her Daddy by Alex Cooper

If you wrote this podcast off while it was a raunchy sex pod about a couple of hotmess girls in NYC. It’s time to give it another go. In the last two years of Call Her Daddy, Alex has had psychologists, doctors, and celebrities who offer insight into well-being, working hard, relationships, self-discovery, and yes, of course…sex. This one hits so many topics we struggle with, from being the broke person in the room to fertility to careers; Alex hits it all with a fellow Masshole, Elizabeth Banks.

Business and Career

Token CEO by Barstool Sports

Barstool’s CEO, Erika Nardini, is a total badass. I have an obsession with her and Barstool in General. She talks about her career journey and interviews various people in varying industries. In this episode, Erika (also on first name basis here) interviews a Shark, Barbara Corcoran. If you don’t love Barbara Corcoran already, this episode will change that quickly.

Erika and sometimes her guests answer questions about career advice on this and her Q&A podcast Work Like a Girl. My favorite part of this Q&A is she answers questions from 3 perspectives; the individual, the manager, and the organization. This style of answering is powerful when looking to move in your career and what is top of mind from your manager’s and the organization’s perspectives.

The Journal by The Wall Street Journal

What is happening with some business headlines you may or may not have heard about. After listening to this podcast, I have bought stocks in some of the companies they have covered. It breaks down what happened behind the scenes and how the world is connected. Do you find crypto as confusing as I do? This episode helps you understand what the hell everyone is talking about with FTX.

Finances

Planet Money by NPR

While I have a LONG way to go, this podcast has helped me understand how money works, how to get ahead, and where it’s flowing in our economy. This podcast can take any topic from anywhere and bring it back to money…Even Gouda Cheese! Yup… you read that right. Cheese. Great way to learn through storytelling and current events.
